Windows Mail, Live Mail or Outlook Express Store Folder


Access Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express to check your emails. But you should know that your emails also exist on your disk. Those emails are saved in a particular folder on your disk. Accessing that folder is difficult but not something impossible.
 

Identify Your Hotmail, Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express Store Folder


Following is the step by step process you can use to find the folder where your email is saved.

  • Select Tools | Options… from the menu
  • In Windows Mail:
    • Go to the “Advanced” tab
    • Click Maintenance
  • In Outlook Express:
    • Go to the Maintenance tab
  • Click on the “Store Folder…” button
  • Don’t forget to highlight the full folder location
  • Copy the string by pressing “Ctrl+C”
     

How to Open the Store Folder Windows Explorer


Following is the way how to do it.

  • Press Windows + R
  • You will paste the folder location in the “Open” box by pressing Ctrl-V
  • Click Ok.

You will see store folder opening in a Window Explorer window

  • Access Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express
  • Use Cancel buttons to close the Store Location and Options dialogs

  • Open Windows Explorer, click “View” and check “Hidden” items
  • Try following folders
    • ØWindows Mail: C:\Users\­[username]/­AppData/­Local/­Microsoft/­Windows Mail
    • ØOutlook Express: C:\Documents and Settings\­[username]\­Local Settings\­Application Data\­Identities\­{[identity ID]}\­Microsoft\­Outlook Express or
    • C:\­Windows\­Application Data\­Outlook Express\­{[identity ID]}
