How to Fix “There Is a Problem with this Website's Security Certificate” Message

Sometimes we try to access a website but what we get is “There is a problem with this website’s security certificate” message displayed on our computer screen. It generally happens when we try to access a site through IE or Internet Explorer.

If you are experiencing the same problem then you will be happy to know that there is way to bypass this message. We will discuss three different methods from which you can use any one to bypass this message.

Method 1

  • Right-click the IE or Internet Explorer icon and from the menu that appears you will select “Run as administrator”.
  • Access the website and select the option to “Continue to this website (not recommended)”
  • You need to click where it says “Certificate Error” in the address bar and then you will select “View Certificates”
  • Select “Install Certificate”
  • Select “Next”
  • Next you will select “Place all certificates in the following store” option.
  • Select “Browse…”
  • First choose “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” and then select “OK”.
  • When security warning prompts, select “Yes”
  • You will see the message “The Import was successful”. Select “Ok”
  • On the “Certificate” box, select “Ok”.

Method 2

Sometimes you encounter certificate errors because the time or time zone is incorrect on your system. Following are the instructions to fix it.

  • Select “Start” and enter “Time”
  • Next you will select the “Date and Time” option
  • By selecting “Change date and time” you can change incorrect date and time. You can also correct time zone by selecting “Change date and time”/
  • Finally you need to select “Ok”.

Method 3

Sometimes the message you receive is “The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website’s address”. Generally people avoid messing with this setting.

  • Launch IE or Internet Explorer
  • You will select the options gear and then select “Internet Options”.
  • Select the “Advanced” tab.
  • Go to the “Security” section and there you need to uncheck the “Warn about certificate address mismatch” option.
  • Select “Ok”
  • To apply the settings restart your computer.
